Paradip: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Paradip Lock Police on Saturday arrested three brown sugar peddlers during a raid near Chuna Chhak, close to Shiva temple. The operation led to the seizure of 21 grams of brown sugar, three mobile phones, and ₹1,800 in cash.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team launched the raid and successfully apprehended the trio, though the main accused managed to escape.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Smruti Ranjan Kar said efforts are underway to nab the absconding mastermind.

The accused have been identified as Bula Maharana of Uchhabanandapur village, Jogendra Mahalia of Jhimani village, and Pralay Pradhan of Nimidiha village.

According to the police, each of them already faces three to four criminal cases. The three accused were produced in court today.

ASP Kar, addressing a press conference, assured that police will intensify action against the rising menace of brown sugar peddling in Paradip and its surrounding areas.
