Paradip: Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district has handled its highest-ever annual traffic of 135.36 million tonnes (MT) in the 2022-23 financial year against 116.13 MT in the previous fiscal year.

The port recorded the highest-ever growth of 19.2 MT (16.56%) in a single financial year in its history. The growth in cargo handling achieved by the Paradip Port is the highest among all ports, both major and non-major, in the country, according to a release from Paradip Port Authority.

Paradip Port contributed 19.2 MT which is 25.6% of the total growth in cargo handling achieved by all major ports during the FY 2022-23. It also achieved the highest-ever coastal shipping traffic of 58.42 MT, with a growth of 16.22 MT which is 38% over the previous year.

Paradip Port improved its berth productivity to 31,050 MT from 27,295 MT in the previous financial year, thus registering 13.76% growth. The berth productivity achieved by it is the highest among all ports in the country. During the financial year, the port handled 20,126 rakes and 2,394 ships.

With 289 MT capacity, Paradip Port is poised to cross the 300 MT mark in the next three years with the commissioning of the Western Dock project. The project will also increase the draught of the port, enabling it to handle cape vessels by 2026.

Paradip Port, which has mechanised 80% of the berths as of date, plans to become 100% mechanised by 2030 with the mechanization of existing four semi-mechanized berths.

The Port has also planned to add another four berths for which requisite approval will be taken during the current financial year, itself.

PL Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port, congratulated the entire team comprising exporters and importers, officers, employees’ unions, PPP Operators, stevedores and shipping agents for their combined effort that led to this stupendous achievement.
