Paradip Truck Mishap: Rescue Operation Continues, Driver Still Missing

**Paradip**: Even though 24 hours have elapsed since a truck skidded off Bhutamundai Bridge in Paradip, the rescue operation launched by Fire Services personnel and ODRAF team has not been able to trace out the truck yet due to high current in the river, let alone the driver.

Paradip Additional SP Bishnu Charan Mishra said, “The under-current in the water is extremely high as flood water has been released from Hirakud Dam. So, a lot of limitations are occurring in this rescue operation. However, we are trying our best.”

Notably on Sunday afternoon, a truck fell off the Bhutamundai Bridge and plummeted into Mahanadi river in Jagatsinghpur district when it was on its way to Chandikhole.

The truck and its driver are still missing in the water. The driver has been identified as Ajit of Udaybata.

Two fire brigades, ODRAF team and professional divers initiated rescue operation at 4 pm yesterday to trace the missing persons. However, the rescue operation had been halted at 6 pm due to low light conditions. It was resumed again today morning.

“The truck owner has been located and he has been called to the spot. We have also sent the news to the driver’s home. They have confirmed that only the driver was present in the truck,” Mishra added.

According to sources, a few fishermen from Udaybata informed the police that they have traced the vehicle in the water. However, there has been no confirmation about the same from the police as the vehicle has not been recovered yet.
