Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, two youths were killed in a clash over parking in the Capital city on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex in the Ayarpada area under Airfield police limits, where a group of people attacked two youths, identified as Rashmiranjan Sethi alias Jitu and Julu Sethi, with sharp weapons.
According to police, the clash was sparked by a dispute over parking between the two groups. The victims were residents of the apartment complex, while the attackers were from a neighbouring complex.
Upon receiving information, DCP Prateek Singh and a police team arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
Police have arrested four people, including the main accused, Ganesh Mallik, and his wife. A search is on for five others who are absconding.
As per the report, a parking dispute between Rashmiranjan and Ganesh, the maintenance person at Kalyani Plaza, had been simmering for days. On Wednesday evening, the situation boiled over when Rashmiranjan parked his car in front of the plaza, sparking a heated exchange with Ganesh.
The argument, which had been brewing since Rashmiranjan parked in the same spot two days prior, turned violent when Ganesh asked Rashmiranjan to remove his vehicle from the place. When Rashmiranjan refused, Ganesh physically attacked him, prompting Rashmiranjan to retaliate.
The situation escalated when Ganesh called his friend Pradeep who arrived with several accomplices. They chased Rashmiranjan and brutally attacked him, stabbing him in the chest. Two bystanders, Julu and another friend, who attempted to intervene, were also stabbed by Ganesh and Pradeep.
After the attackers fled, locals rushed the severely injured men to the hospital. Rashmiranjan was pronounced dead on arrival while Julu succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The third victim remains in critical condition.
Police have intensified patrolling in the locality to avert any untoward incident. Meanwhile, families of the deceased youths have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.
