Balasore: A passenger bus met with an accident on the flyover near Fandi Chhack in the heart of Balasore city on Monday evening, but fortunately no one was injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus enroute to Sahadeva Khunta bus stand from Balighat area was moving at a high speed. It hit the sidewall of the flyover and hung precariously. The accident occurred around at 10:15 pm.
Fortunately, there was no passenger in the bus at the time of the accident. The driver fled the scene after the accident.
After the bus crashed against the flyover sidewall and fell, it got stuck into the roof of a shop and transformer below. As a result, the flyover and the adjoining areas became dark as the power supply from the transformer was snapped. Fire Services, ODRAF and Sahadeva Khunta police personnel reached the scene and assessed the situation. They lifted the bus with the help of a crane. However, the traffic on the bridge remained closed till late night.
City DSP Subhransu Shekhar Nayak and Sadar police station IIC Dayanidhi Das were at the scene and supervised the operation. According to eye witnesses, the accident occurred due to the recklessness of the bus driver.
