Bhubaneswar: With date of election to the much-awaited Patkura Assembly Constituency scheduled on July 20, 2019, the major political parties running for the poll are hopeful of securing public mandate.

BJD’s Kendrapara MLA Sashibhusan Behera said as the party during the general elections has focused on social and development issues, people of Odisha have been extending their support.

Reiterating his earlier statement, Behera said, “During 2014 election, the BJD had won three out of five assembly seats in the district while the remaining two went to Congress. Presently excluding Patkura assembly seat, the party has emerged victorious in four seats therefore the fifth seat will also go in favour of BJD.”

Deputy leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Santosh Singh Saluja asserted that Congress will fight for the poor, farmers and general public. He urged the people to vote for the party as with it the number of Congress legislators in the Odisha Assembly will increase to 10 and they can fight for the people.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar today informed that they are prepared for the upcoming polls in Patkura assembly segment which will be held at 309 booths. While the ballot paper has been printed the commissioning of machines will be done within two to three days.

The CEO asserted that basic infrastructure for the poll is at place. He has personally conducted a field visit on June 11 and has submitted a report in this regard to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Based on it the date of poll has been scheduled on July 20, 2019 while the counting of votes will be on July 24, 2019 and the poll will be completed by July 26, 2019.

Kumar further said the monsoon will have no adverse effect on the elections. The model code of conduct (MCC) has come into force from yesterday and the State Government, various departments of State Government and all political parties have been apprised about it by means of a letter. The MCC will be in force within the revenue boundaries of Kendrapara district, he added.
