Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher Arrested In PWD JE Humiliation Case, Sent To Jail

Balangir: Soon after detaining Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher for interrogating into the case of humiliation meted out to a PWD Junior Engineer (JE) in public last month, local police arrested the elected lawmaker and forwarded him to court today.

Earlier in the day, the Patnagarh police detained the local MLA and later declared him arrested. Soon after he was forwarded to the Patnagarh ADJ Court.

Since the court rejcted the arrested MLA’s bail plea, he was sent to judicial custody (jail).

Reportedly on June 5, Meher had been caught on camera while punishing the  JE in public for an allegedly low quality work executed in Belpada section of this district.

The viral video shows the legislator making the JE do sit-ups 100 times within the deadline of five minutes in public glare at Gambhari village.

Even Executive Engineer of Kantabanji, Lokanath Mishra, had allegedly slapped Sabar in full public view at the behest of the MLA.

Irate over this, members of the tribal community have been demanding the arrest of the legislator and had also threatened to gherao the Odisha Assembly on June 26 if no action is taken in this regard.

Even members of Odisha Diploma Engineers Service Association (ODESA) had also threatened to observe a pen down agitation and further resort to cease-work agitation demanding stringent action against Meher and Mishra.

It is worthwhile to mention that Balangir Collector Arindam Dakua had mentioned that the allegations against the MLA and Executive Engineer have been found as factually correct. He had assured to apprise the matter to the State Goverment, which would take action accordingly.
