Bhubaneswar: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) of Patnagarh in Balangir district has reserved the verdict in the sensational parcel bomb blast case for May 28. The main accused, Punjilal Meher, and his wife were present in court during the hearing today.
The case dates back to February 23, 2018, when a gift parcel exploded at the wedding reception of Soumya Shekhar and Rima, killing Soumya’s maternal grandmother and critically injuring the couple. Soumya later succumbed to his injuries.
The Patnagarh police registered a case under various sections, including 302, 307, and the Explosive Substances Act. The investigation was later handed over to the Crime Branch’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), which arrested Punjilal Meher, an Iranian professor at Bhainsa College, on April 25, 2018.
The verdict, expected on May 28, will determine the fate of the main accused, Punjilal Meher. All eyes are on the punishment he will receive for his alleged role in the parcel bomb blast case.
