Balangir: In a significant development in the infamous Patnagarh parcel bomb case, the statement of Punjilal Meher, the prime and only accused, was recorded in the court of the Additional District Judge in Patnagarh on Thursday.
Punjilal, who was brought to the court from Balangir Jail by the police at around 11 AM, answered 245 questions related to the 2018 incident that had shocked the State.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for the 13th of this month, allowing Punjilal to present his defense through a witness. This marks a crucial step in the legal proceedings, which have been ongoing for over seven years since the tragic event.
The incident, which occurred on February 23, 2018, involved a parcel bomb explosion that claimed the lives of two persons and left one person critically injured. The case has since been a topic of intense public interest, with many awaiting justice for the victims.
Public Prosecutor Ashish Kumar Chandan expressed optimism about the case nearing its conclusion, highlighting the importance of the recent developments.
The recording of Punjilal’s statement and the court’s decision to allow him to present his defense indicate that the case is moving toward its final stages, he added.
