Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge (Coal Cases), Rouse Avenue Courts, Delhi has today pronounced sentences for four accused who were convicted in a case related to Odisha’s Patrapara coal block allocation during 2006.
The Court imposed fine of Rs 30 lakh on the accused company M/s. Adhunik Corporation Ltd and awarded four years Rigorous Imprisonment to its Promoter/Directors Nirmal Kumar Agarwal and Mahesh Kumar Agarwal alongwith fine of Rs 30 lakh each.
All the convicted persons/firm are based at Kolkata. CBI had registered a case in this connection on September 11, 2014. Earlier, a Preliminary Enquiry was initiated by CBI on the directions from the CVC related to coal blocks allocated during the period from 2006 to 2009.
“During investigation, it was revealed that the accused company got Patrapara coal block allocated by misrepresentation of production capacity as well as other false and forged documents, before the 30th Screening Committee. Accordingly, the allocation letter was issued on January 13, 2006, by Ministry of Coal in favour of M/s. Adhunik Corporation Ltd,” the CBI stated.
“After investigation, a charge-sheet was filed against the accused. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them,” the agency added.
