**Rourkela/Soro/Pattamundai:** Following the peace committee meeting on Tuesday evening in the city here in the wake of group clash and communal tension over Ganesh idol immersion on Monday night, peace is limping back to the steel city here.
Despite simmering tension at certain sensitive pockets of the city here, situation is under control.
Twenty platoons of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) and two platoons of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are still on guard against anything untoward while 24-hour patrolling is on to avert mischief-mongers eying to perpetrate their evil designs once again.
Adequate police bandobast has been made and sufficiently deployed to keep a strict vigil on possible palpable tension.
Security personnel have been deployed from Station Road, Madhusudan Marg to Udit Nagar Ambedkar Chhak.
Section 144 of the CRPC (prohibitory orders) along the Main Road market area still remains enforced.
Police are keeping a hawk eye on the situation. Despite peaceful, 144 has been still imposed in the area and shops have downed their shutters.
Local businessmen and traders have urged the administration to permit usual opening of shops and restoring of normal life.
Meanwhile, the Rourkela Integration Forum, all political parties and heads of communities have assured the administration full cooperation in restoring normalcy soon.
WR IG, Sundargarh Collector and Rourkela SP have appealed through media to restore peace and harmony in the steel city and not to put stress on the evil designs of rumour-mongers active on social media.
In Soro of Balasore district the remaining six idols of Lord Ganesh were immersed amid beefed up security on Wednesday as per the decision taken by the peace committee on Tuesday.
The peace committee on Tuesday had decided to conduct the immersion in a low key manner as the Section 144 of CrPC (prohibitory order) is in force.
The district administration on Wednesday relaxed the Section 144 between 8 am and 2 pm during which the immersion took place.
Night curfew was imposed on tension-torn Soro town on Monday and Tuesday besides the Section 144 already being enforced.
Even in Pattamundai in Kendrapada district also same tense situation has been experienced following group clash during Lord Ganesh idol immersion and Section 144 clamped earlier is still in force there.
In a major development on the day, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichadan led a 10-member delegation to the Raj Bhawan here and submitted a memorandum urging to intervene into the situation in Rourkela, Soro, Pattamundai and Basudevpur. He alleged that the State Government and its police are sitting pretty following which such communal clashes are spreading wings from time to time in the State.
