Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended the Panchayat Extension Officer (PEO) of Turubudi Gram Panchayat in Patrapur block of Ganjam district while taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramina (PMAYG) beneficiary.
PEO Rajendra Kumar Behera had demanded the said amount from the complainant towards release of last instalment of Rs 30,000 in connection with the construction of house under PMAYG, already completed by the complainant during year 2020-22.
The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the exclusive possession of Behera.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at residential house of Behera at village Banamali, under K. Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam, his rented house at Laxmi Vihar, 1st lane, Berhampur, and his office.
