Bhubaneswar: In a disturbing and shocking incident, a peon at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department in R. Udayagiri, Gajapati district, allegedly served urine to a senior officer instead of water.
According to a police complaint filed by Assistant Executive Engineer Guruprasad Pattnayak, the incident occurred on the night of July 23 while he was working late in the office. Pattnayak asked peon Subash Chandra Behera for drinking water. Behera allegedly handed him a bottle that, unknown to the officer at the time, contained urine.
Pattnayak, reportedly unaware due to work pressure, consumed some of the contents. He began feeling unwell shortly thereafter and grew suspicious. His condition worsened, prompting his admission to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
After recovering, Pattnayak lodged a formal complaint with R. Udayagiri police. Based on his statement, a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
The motive behind the act is yet to be established. Police have stated that they are looking into whether it was a deliberate attempt to harm the officer or an accidental misstep.
