Koraput: A pet dog died due to snakebite in Sunabeda here on Wednesday. The incident was reported from the Sunabeda Public School where the authorities spotted a snake and sought the helpline’s assistance. Snake Helpline volunteer Sujit Mohanty rushed to the spot and rescued the cobra.
The venomous snake was released in a forest. However, Mohanty spotted blood in the area and inquired about the matter. He saw four dogs of the boxer breed moving in the area but one of them, named Tyson was behaving abnormally.
It took little time for Mohanty to understand that the dog was bit by the cobra. The two and a half years old Tyson was bit fiercely by the snake and it had deep wounds on the face. Tyson was rushed to the nearest veterinarian but it succumbed.
Sources said, the pet dog could have had a fight with the snake to prevent it from entering the school building. In a way, it saved its owner and other staff from being bitten by the snake, sacrificing its own life.
