Bhubaneswar: With the ongoing strike by drivers of commercial vehicles entering the second day, a possible fuel crisis looms large over the state.
Around 2,000 tankers transport petrol and diesel from depots at Paradip, Balasore, Jharsuguda and Jatni to over 1,600 filling stations across the stocks.
As the movement of these tankers has almost come to a halt owing to the drivers’ strike and people resorting to panic buying, stock of petrol and diesel are drying up at fuel stations across the State.
Utkal Petroleum Dealers’ Association General Secretary Sanjay Lath today appealed to the people to refrain from panic buying.
He warned if people resort to panic buying fuel stock in the state may get exhausted by tomorrow afternoon.
Moreover, prices of vegetables and other essential commodities have started to soar as commercial vehicles transporting these items have come to halt due to the drivers’ strike.
