Bhubaneswar: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has has given its nod to start post-graduate (PG) courses at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and Capital Hospital here.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to share this crucial development. In a Tweet the CM stated:
“In a major boost to health sector in #Odisha, @NMC_IND has given final permission to start post-graduate courses in PGIMER and Capital Hospital, #Bhubaneswar. MS/ MD courses will be started in six specialities with a total of 24 seats from current academic year. #SusthaOdisha”
The Health and Family Welfare Department, in May this year, declared Capital Hospital as attached teaching hospital for the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The Capital Hospital has been upgraded as the PGIMER, for which infrastructural works are currently going on.
The NMC has also given permission to start MBBS courses at Sundergarh and Keonjhar medical colleges with 100 seats each. The CM further Tweeted:
“MBBS course will also be started with 100 seats each in Sundargarh Govt Medical College & Keonjhar Govt Medical College. #Odisha Govt will provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching & non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment, hospital facilities as per NMC norms.”
