Puri: Special rituals are being performed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri to commemorate the holy Phagu Dasami.
According to sources, Phagu Dasami is observed on the tenth day of the bright fortnight of Phalguna Shukla Paksha at Srimandir. It marks the beginning of the six-day-long Dola Purnima festival at the Srimandir in Puri.
Dola Yatra is one of the 12 major festivals observed at the 12th-century shrine. On Phagu Dasami, the idol of Dolagobinda representing Lord Jagannath, is being carried in procession to a Dola Vedi at Shri Jagannath Ballav mutt, where special rituals will be performed.
Also, Phagu Khela is held on this occasion to celebrate the eternal love of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. Darshan of three presiding deities Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra between Phagu Dashami and Dola Purnima is considered to be extremely auspicious.
It is learnt that the deities at the temple will be dressed in ‘Chacheri Besha,’ and they will be served ‘Chacheri Bhog’ until Chaturdashi. On Dola Purnima, the deities will be adorned with golden attire. Srimandir witnesses a huge rush of devotees every year.
