Bhubaneswar: The notion that today’s generation is self-centred and apathetic is a misconception. It is wrong to opine that young people are incapable of looking beyond their own interests. Youths like Rajesh Kumar Bagarti from Kandhamal, are defying this stereotype with his remarkable selfless deeds.
Rajesh Kumar Bagarti, a PhD scholar at Ravenshaw University, is going the extra mile to educate underprivileged kids in his hometown.
A resident of Gatamaha village under G Udayagiri block, Rajesh is pursuing his PhD in History from Ravenshaw University. Despite his busy schedule, he makes it a point to visit his village regularly and teach kids from Class 1 to Class 12.
But what’s remarkable about Rajesh’s effort is that he uses his own earnings from selling paddy to buy educational materials for the kids. He believes that education is the key to empowering the next generation, and he is determined to do his part.
During the harvest season, he cultivated paddy on his 4-acre land. After reaping the crop, he sold the paddy at the paddy procurement centre. With the money he earned from selling paddy, Rajesh spent it to provide study materials to underprivileged and meritorious students of his village, from Class I to Class 12.
Rajesh’s initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic when he started taking classes for 14 students in his village. He would teach them every morning and evening, covering various subjects.
A mother’s love, affection, and responsibility towards her child are unconditional. Similarly, I feel a deep sense of responsibility towards my birthplace. My sole objective is to educate and empower the children of my village, thereby contributing to its development. And I believe that education is the way forward. My goal is to help these kids grow and become capable individuals who can make a difference in our society.
