Phulbani: Tension erupted in front of Gocchapada Police Station in Kandhamal district on Monday following the death of an undertrial prisoner who was undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur.
The deceased identified as Mrutyunjaya Kanhar had been arrested in November last year in a drug-related case and had been lodged at Phulbani District Jail.
After he was taken ill on March 16 this year, the jail authorities admitted first admitted him to the district headquarters hospital from where he was shifted to Berhampur hospital.
He died during treatment at the hospital yesterday. Today, his family members and villagers placed his body outside Gocchapada Police Station demanding compensation alleging medical negligence.
