Phulbani MBBS Student Tests Negative For Coronavirus

Bhubaneswar: The test results came negative for an MBBS Student from Phulbani for novel coronavirus. He was was under observation after he had developed flu-like symptoms after returning from Hubei province in China; which had been the epicentre of the outbreak of the disease.

The student, who came home in Phulbani on January 11, a few days after the outbreak of the disease, had been suffering from cold, cough and chest congestion since then.

The student after suffering from cold and cough for about the last ten days suspected that he had contracted the virus and wrote to Kandhamal Chief Medical Officer (CDMO) about it. Taking immediate action, the CDMO put the student under observation in isolation and his blood samples were sent for examination.

Another China-return medico has also been under isolation at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and whose test results are awaited.

The State Government has open special wards in five major hospitals in different locations for the treatment of coronavirus case. SCB has opened a special ward with 76 beds with 8 ICU beds for possible cases. If need be, the number of beds will also be extended up to a 100.

Apart from SCBMCH in Cuttack, special wards have also been opened MKCG, Berhampur, VIMSAR, Burla, Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Rourkela Government Hospital and Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital and in Paradip Port Hospital.
