Bhubaneswar: In digital era, timely, transparent, and accessible dissemination of information is crucial for bridging the gap between policy formulation and public awareness. It was opined by Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Akhil Kumar Mishra at a seminar in the the Central University of Odisha (CUO) Koraput on Friday.
Participating as Chief Guest, Mishra highlighted the importance of adopting effective communication tools to ensure that government schemes and welfare initiatives reach the grassroots for contributing inclusive national development.
He further underlined the need for innovative outreach strategies, including the use of digital media platforms and community-based communication methods, to enhance citizen participation and strengthen public trust in governance.
The seminar was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Shri Narasingh Charan Panda Head of the Department of Sociology, Dr. Kapila Khemunda, Head of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Dr. Nikhil Gouda and Associate Professor Dr. Sourav Gupta, along with faculty members, media professionals, and students.
Vice-Chancellor of the University Panda stressed that students pursuing journalism and mass communication must uphold the highest standards of ethics in their profession. He noted that responsible journalism plays a vital role in shaping public opinion and ensuring that accurate and verified information reaches society. He urged students to act as catalysts of positive change by promoting fact-based reporting and countering misinformation. “Ethical journalism is essential not only for credibility but also for strengthening democratic values,” he added.
The seminar witnessed active participation from faculty members, media professionals, and students who engaged in discussions on evolving communication practices, challenges in government outreach and the role of media in development narratives.
