This New Year, Pick Your Picnic Spots To Unwind & Relax In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Christmas time and the New Years Eve – a quintessential picnic period with people thronging to different locations to feast and have a merry time with the people they love. We have picked up some of the most happening picnic spots of the State with the surroundings so pleasant and enchanting, that it will be fun to plan out a trip to these places and have a rejoicing time.

1: Daringbadi

The only place in Odisha which experiences snow fall during winter season. A plateau and a pretty little hill station, it is known as the Kashmir of Odisha. Gifted with natural beauty of beautiful valleys, Daringbadi is about a hundred kilometres from Phulbani and fifty kilometres from Baliguda.

Situated at 3000ft above sea level, it is an ideal summer resort and a popular tourist destination. The major attractions include Doluri River, Putudi water falls, Dasingbadi waterfalls, Badangia waterfalls, Dadubada Paradise, Ludu waterfalls, turmeric gardens,etc.

The journey from the plains to the hills of Daringbadi is an experience in itself.

2: Similipal National Reserve

Spread over a sprawling area of 2750 sq kms, the park is nestled in the centre of Mayurbhanj, the northernmost district of Odisha. It is one of the earliest and finest of India’s 15 Tiger Reserves falling under Project Tiger. Open from mid October to mid Jume, it is home to a large variety of flora and fauna.

The reserve surrounds three major water falls namely Joranda, Uski and Baheripani, adding more attraction to the lush green valleys.

3: Keonjhar Water Falls

Sana ghagara waterfall in Keonjhar is good to visit anytime in the year due to its cool climate. An exotic tourist place, it is located only 5 km from Kendujhar town on the Keonjhar-Sambalpur National Highway. The calm, peaceful, relaxing and green forest environment is one of the best choices for nature loving tourists.

Bada ghagra waterfalls is abourt 10 kms away from the Sanghagra. Still untouched by the maddening crowd, it is a great place for unwinding with amazing view during sunset.

Bhimkund Waterfall: Located on the border of Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts of Orissa, this waterfall can be accessed from both sides. It is on the holy river Baitarani, and is believed to be the bathing spot for the second Pandava son Bhim during their incognito life in Birat Nagar. It is a beautiful natural water reservoir with one of the most beautiful waterfall of Keonjhar and possibly Odisha.

4: Chilika

Chilika lake is the Asia’s largest Brackish water Lake. Studded with small islands that include the Honeymoon Island and Breakfast Island, Chilka Lake is alienated from the Bay of Bengal by a sandy ridge. The pear-shaped Chilka Lake stretches across 1,100 sq km.

Other than migratory bird watching Chilika is famous for boating, fishing and popular picnic spot for locals residing around Chilika. Another major attraction at Chilika is Irrawaddy dolphins.

There are three main places where tourist can also visit such as Satapada, Barakul and Rambha. Satapada is on the northern side of Chilika Lake. The main attraction at Satapada is its Chilika boating and Dolphin watch. Barakul is an entry point to visit ( by boat ) Kalijai temple and Nalabana for bird watching. Rambha is the southmost point of Chilika Lake with all tourist facilities. This area is famous for local non-veg food, boating, lighthouse and Dinosaur Island.

5: The Golden Triangle (Puri-Konark-Bhubaneswar)

Puri, Konark along with capital city of Bhubaneswar form the three vertices of Golden Triangle of Orissa tourism circuit.

Bhubaneswar, the capital city is definitely the showcase city of Orissa. Known as the temple city, its main attractions are Lingaraj Temple, Mukteswar temple, Dhauligiri, Khandagiri, Udaygiri, Musuems (Tribal & Natural history), Haat (traditional Mall and Nandan Kanan.

Puri is famous for one of the four dhams of Hindu religion. The Shree Jagannath Temple attracts thousands of devotees every year from across the world. On the way to Puri from Bhubaneswar, Pipili is worth a stop for people fond of art & handicrafts or looking for some souvenir. It is world famous for its applique craft. The sea beach at Puri is a very popular sea side resort where the beauty of the sky in radiant colours, the roaring waves and the golden beach can be experienced. To take a sea bath at Puri is a pleasure and enjoyable experience.

Konark: Konark is a much sought after tourist place. Konark site is one of the best place having monuments with ancient architectural beauty . It is the site of the 7th-century Sun Temple, also known as the Black Pagoda, built in black granite during the reign of Narasimhadeva-I. The temple is a World Heritage Site. Konark beach is one of the clean and beautiful beaches in Odisha.

So, pack your bags and pick the destination to unwind and relax for a great year ahead.
