Paradip: A pigeon landing on the deck of a fishing trawler midsea with a microchip in one of its legs and a camera on its other leg and some writings on its wings has caused panic among the local people here who suspect it to be spying for an enemy country.
The Paradip Marine police have taken custody of the pigeon.
Confirming the incident Jagatsinghpur SP Rahul PR said, the matter is being probed thoroughly.
“We will be consulting with SFSL (State Forensic Laboratory) Bhubaneswar. The microchip and the camera will be sent to SFSL for examination,” the SP added.
The pigeon had landed on the deck of the fishing trawler ‘Sarathi’ while it was anchoring around 45 km off the coast from Konark around 8-10 days back.
“We had anchored in the sea around 45 km from Konark coast this pigeon landed on the deck. When I called the pigeon it came closer I caught it. I got scared as it had a camera and a chip fixed on its legs. Something has been written under its wings,” said Pitambar Behera, a fisherman who was on Sarathi during the fishing trip.
Behera said that he has been feeding the bird with broken rice since it has been with him for 8-10 days.
Currently, the pigeon is in the custody of Paradip Marine police.
