Bhubaneswar: The first phase of a novel programme introduced by Bhubaneswar UPD of the Commissionerate of Police – DREAMS is nearing successful completion. Under this programme – ‘deaddiction, reformation, and entrepreneurial assistance for making a safe society’ (DREAMS), the police intend to reform drug addicts, mostly those who are involved in crimes.
In the first phase, 50 youths who were into substance abuse underwent the programme for three months and have shown phenomenal reformation, said DCP Prateek Singh. “The results have been very encouraging. The candidates have quit the consumption, and are healthy, both mentally and physically. They participated in skilling programmes and we will ensure to engage them in productive work so that they can start a new life.”
The initiative is a part of Operation White Spider started by the Twin City police to restrict the drug menace in the city. The youths who get addicted to drugs resort to petty crimes to fulfill their daily needs. In the process, they ruin their career, health and finances. Therefore, this programme has many good sides. Apart from checking the drug trade, DREAMS will make our youths responsible citizens, the DCP added.
