**Pipili**: Judhistir Samantaray, senior Congress leader and former member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Pipili and who was behind the bars in connection with the clash between BJP and Congress workers during Odisha Bandh in January of this year, has been granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court.
According to reports, the High Court has granted the bail against two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. Samantaray and his son were arrested by the police following their alleged involvement in grievously injuring BJP leader Ashrit Pattnaik during the Odisha Bandh that had been called on January 25 of this year.
The father-son duo had been arrested after face-off between BJP and Congress workers during the bandh from Mangalpur Chhak of Pipili district. The dawn-to-dusk bandh had been called by BJP and Congress parties over the suicide of Kunduli gangrape victim.
Samantaray, the ex-Congress MLA and political bête noire of ruling Biju Janata Dal’s sitting MLA from Pipili Pradeep Maharathi, had also been arrested on murder charges of Sushant Mishra, a Panchayat Samiti member in May 2016. He had been granted interim bail by the High Court in April 2017.
According to sources, several cases are pending against Samantaray in Pipili and other police stations.
