Pipili Ragging Horror: Student Forced To Drink Toilet Water

Pipili: A horrifying case of ragging and physical abuse at a private management institute on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar has triggered widespread outrage, raising serious questions about student safety and the effectiveness of anti-ragging measures in Odisha’s educational institutions.

The victim, a second-year management student from Aul in Kendrapara district, has accused a classmate and a senior of brutally torturing him after he refused to consume drugs.

According to the complaint filed by his mother at Pipili Police Station, the attackers not only assaulted him but also forced him to drink water from a toilet and lick the toilet floor—acts that have shocked the community with their sheer cruelty.

The incident reportedly occurred on November 24 inside the institution’s premises. The student alleges that he was called to the second floor by one of his classmates and a senior student, where he was taken into a toilet and beaten mercilessly. The assailants allegedly pushed his face into the toilet pan, forced him to drink the dirty water, and punched him repeatedly on his face, chest, neck, stomach, and knees. They also attempted to strip him before a housekeeping worker’s sudden arrival interrupted the assault.

The brutality, however, did not end there. For nearly two hours, the student was allegedly moved between two toilets and continued to face physical torture and humiliation. Later, he claims, the same senior, along with his girlfriend and the girlfriend of another student, lured him to a house outside the campus under the pretext of offering a meal. There too, he was pressured to consume drugs and threatened with extortion, with the group allegedly demanding ₹2 lakh. He was confined in the house for two to three hours before being released.

Following the assaults, the student reportedly stayed away from college on November 25 due to fever. When he returned the next day, the accused student allegedly confronted him again, issued fresh threats, demanded money, and warned him that he would be unable to attend classes or live peacefully at home.

Fearing for his safety, the victim has not returned to the institution since November 26.

The Pipili Police have registered a case based on the written complaint and begun an investigation.

The incident has put a spotlight on ongoing ragging concerns despite strict government warnings and anti-ragging regulations. Questions are now being raised about how such violent practices continue unchecked within educational institutions linked to prominent private universities.
