Bhubaneswar: In order to achieve a plastic-free Berhampur and in to create an awareness initiative, a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) has been installed at the Old Bus Stand in Berhampur by the local civic body in collaboration with HDFC Bank.
Plastic has become a major pollutant to the environment. It has been seen that Plastic products contributed to the blockage of the drainage system and ecosystem.
As part of Swacha Bharat Abhiyan to make Berhampur plastic-free, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) started the Plastic Free programe collaborating with HDFC Bank Parivartan.
HDFC BANK in turn has roped in the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) as implementing partner for this Plastic Free Program.
Citizens will drop off their plastic, and polythene and get a discount coupon which can be used at Local Restaurants and Swiggy/ Zomato for food. BeMC has provided the space for the installation of the RVM which will be maintained by the CEE.
The inauguration was attended by BeMC Mayor Sanghmitra Dalai as Chief Guest Sanghmitra Dalai, BeMC Commissioner Siddeshwar Baliram Bondar, and Berhampur Sub-Collector Keerthi Vasan V.
Senior Bank official Nrusingha Mishra and Mr. Sodhi from CEE were also present during the event.
