Kendrapada/Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the efforts of Kamala Moharana of Odisha’s Gulnagar panchayat for making many household articles using waste materials. She leads a self-help Group (SHG) which makes articles using milk pouches and other plastic wastes.
Highlighting the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the 98th edition of his Maan Ki Baat address on All India Radio, Modi said waste to wealth is also an important dimension of the campaign. He said, “Kamala Maharana, a sister from Kendrapada district of Odisha runs a self-help group and makes household articles from waste materials. Women members of this group make several things like baskets and mobile stands from milk pouches and other plastic packing materials.”
Kamala’s happiness knew no bounds when she learned that the Prime Minister has appreciated her work. Expressing her happiness, Kamala said, “My joy knows no bound today. I had never expected that the Prime Minister would praise me for my work. I am feeling proud that I have incorporated Swachha Bharat Abhiyan into my profession. Many people came to me today to congratulate me. I am very happy.” Modi also praised a youth group from Haryana that has cleaned several tons of waste in Chandigarh. “If we join hands, we can achieve the unthinkable and make India free from waste,” he added.
