**Angul / Bhubaneswar:** As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing public reach either through social media, Maan Ki Baat or video conferencing, today it had been the turn of the farmers of Angul district to narrate their personal experience relating to their occupation and also to know how use of modern science and technology enables scripting success story in farming as well as augmenting income.
In her media reactions, elated woman farmer Beenapani Rout recounted, “Today the Prime Minister discussed how we (farmers) can improve our production as well as financial status. The Prime Minister drew a comparison between our traditional methods of farming and the use of modern science and technology. He advised us to take the help of the District Agriculture officials and the scientists of District Agriculture Science Centre so that we could improve in farming.”
“I feel very good after talking to the Prime Minister. I had never hoped that being a rural woman, I could meet and converse with the Prime Minister,” she beamed.
In her reactions, District Agriculture Science Centre senior scientist-cum-head Dr Binita Satpathy said, “The farmers of our Angul district today talked directly to the Prime Minister. It’s a very proud moment for Angul district as well as the state.”
“The farmers of this district, who have now developed, have achieved so by seeking the assistance and coordination of our District Agriculture Science Centre along with all line departments.”
On the contrary, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra commented, “When the BJP formed Government at the Centre in 2014, they had made lots of promises to the farmers. Such as 1.5 times hike in MSP,
implementation of scores of recommendations made by the Swaminathan Commission.”
“Even after elapse of four years, the BJP Government at the Centre is yet to fulfill them. On the other hand, the income of the farmers of Odisha has increased to about 110%. It’s historic. Thus, the way BJD Government in Odisha has been taking steps for the farmers, it augurs well,” he claimed, demanding, “Let the BJP Government at the Centre implement its scheme for the farmers and later discuss with the farmers.”
“The farmers need only one message. Let their MSP be hiked 1.5 times as promised, recommendations of Swaminathan Commission be implemented, national policy on farm loan waiver be in place. Unless and until these are materialized, there is no use simply discussing with the farmers. It only rakes up a big question mark,” the BJD spokesperson quipped.
