Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday virtually laid the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway (ECoR).

The Rs 107-crore project aims to enhance railway infrastructure in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring regions. It will serve as the new headquarters for the division and will feature modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art Divisional Control Office, a contemporary DRM Office Building, and dedicated accommodations for officers and staff.

The event in Rayagada witnessed the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh, and Members of Parliament from the region. Joining via video conferencing were Governor of Odisha Kambhampati Hari Babu and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The Rayagada Railway Division project is poised to drive economic growth in the tribal belt of South Odisha.

Key features include a modern G+2 DRM Office Building with 12,000 square meters of space, a Divisional Control Office for efficient operations, housing for division personnel, and the development of roads to improve connectivity. Sustainability measures, such as rainwater harvesting systems, are integrated into the design to promote environmental responsibility.

This new division is expected to strengthen transport links with local industries, boost connectivity, and generate employment opportunities, significantly improving the lives of local communities.

The Rayagada Railway Division marks a milestone in the development of regional infrastructure and reinforces the government’s commitment to enhancing the socio-economic fabric of South Odisha.
