Jharsuguda: After an inspection of the newly-built Jharsuguda airport today morning, Union Minister Jual Oram informed in a media interaction that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the State on September 22 to inaugurate the airport.

“Four programmes have been finalized in the Prime Minister’s schedule for September 22. First, he will inaugurate Jharsuguda airport, then he will dedicate the new railway line from Saldega to Jharsuguda. After that he will inaugurate two coal mines that are ready to start operation,” the Minister of Tribal Affairs said.

“He will also visit Talcher to inaugurate the fertilizer plant and all preparations for his visit are in full swing. A public meeting is also being planned for which I would like to request the people to be present in large numbers,” he added.

“According to operators who apply first, flights will start functioning from Jharsuguda to Mumbai, New Delhi, Calcutta and Madras. In immediate effect, UDAN flights to Bhubaneswar, Rourkela and Jeypore will begin. Raipur and Ranchi that are also nearby, so Air Asia flights to connect those two places will also be established soon,” he explained.

The Minister also addressed the people’s demand of Integrated Tribal Development Agencies at Laikera and Kirmira blocks and informed that discussions are in full swing at the Centre and State levels for the ITDAs. A model residential school in the area is also under deliberations, he concluded.

SK Chauhan, Director of Jharsuguda airport also confirmed, "The 4C category certificate for the airport was given to us on July 31. Now after two months, we are all set to begin operation as the buildings and the towers are ready and fully functional."
