Baripada: The wildlife officials of Similipal South Wildlife Division apprehended a 50-year-old man with a handmade gun and a significant quantity of explosives inside the forest area late on Friday night.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Deputy Director, Similipal South Wildlife Division, Baripada, the arrest was made following an alert from an AI Camera at around 1:35 AM on March 28.
Acting on the photo alert, staff of the Podadiha Wildlife Range immediately rushed to the spot and took position in concealment. When the suspect tried to flee, the team successfully apprehended him.
During the search, the following items were seized from the possession of the accused. The seized items are SBML Handmade Gun, 25 gm white explosive, 155 gm black explosive, 10 cycle cotter pins, 220 cycle balls, six fish net balls and two match boxes
The arrested person has been identified as Dasarath Sing, aged 50 years, son of Late Lembudhara Sing, resident of J.S. Jamdiha under Podadiha Gram Panchayat, Kaptipada Police Station in Mayurbhanj district.
Officials said the accused has violated several provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Sections 9, 27, 29, 30, 31, 32, 34, 39 & 52) and is punishable under Section 51 of the Act (as amended up to 2022).The accused has been forwarded to the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Baripada, for remand into judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is underway.
