Baripada: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Baripada has convicted a poacher for illegally hunting a wild boar inside the Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary.
The convict identified as Hari Naik is a resident of Kashikundala village in Mayurbhanj district.
Naik, son of Lalbabu Naik, has been sentenced to three years in jail and fined Rs 50,000 for his crime. This conviction marks the second successful prosecution of a wildlife crime case in the last two years.
“….the prosecution has established its case beyond all reasonable doubt and thus the accused is found guilty which is punishable U/s.51(1) (c) of the Wildlife Protection Act, Ig72 and thus he is convicted thereunder U/s. 248 (2) of Cr.P.C,” the court order read.
The Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area and home to several endangered species.
