Baripada: As many as 18 country made guns were surrendered by poachers at different places in Thakurmunda area of Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
Out of these 18 country made guns 14 were surrendered at Thakurmunda Forest Range Office and 04 were surrendered at Mahuldiha police station, reports said.
Surrender of the weapons was in response to a call given by Mayurbhanj police as a special drive to de-weaponize and weed out poachers from Similipal Tiger Reserve.
Mayurbhanj SP Battula Gangadhar addressing a presser on Saturday informed that the police have already seized 32 firearms surrendered by poachers and were hopeful of surrender of 20-30 weapons by July 31.
Mayurbhanj police had launched a special drive from July 18 to 31 for the surrender of firearms by poachers.
