Baripada: A group of armed poachers was intercepted inside the Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary on July 31, thanks to prompt action and timely mobilisation of forces. The poachers were captured in an AI camera, leading to an eight-hour, intense operation in the forest.

Five poachers were arrested, and three handmade guns were recovered from them on the spot. The accused were forwarded to judicial custody, and further investigation is ongoing. The poaching attempt was foiled due to the timely action taken by the forest department.

The Similipal Tiger Reserve has been using AI-powered cameras to monitor and prevent poaching activities. These cameras have proven effective in detecting and tracking poachers, allowing authorities to take swift action. The authorities have stepped up their anti-poaching efforts, including the use of AI cameras, watchtowers, all-terrain vehicles, and sniffer dogs.
