Baripada: The Fast Track Court in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday sentenced a youth to 20 years of jail term for raping a minor girl.
Apart from the jail term, the court has slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict Naran Soren, a resident of Badhunia village under Bisoi police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, Soren was found guilty of raping the minor in 2017. The Bisoi police had arrested him and produced him in court, which led to the conviction.
Public Prosecutor Monaranjan Pattnaik handled the case. He said, on the fateful day the convict barged into the minor girl’s house when she was asleep and took her to an isolated place where he raped her.
Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak delivered the verdict after hearing witness testimonies in the case. Of the two accused, one had passed away during the proceedings, leading the court to sentence the remaining accused, Soren, to 20 years in prison, said Pattnaik.
