Bhubaneswar: The Special (POCSO) Court in Balasore on Tuesday convicted a man in the case of rape and sentenced him to imprisonment of 20 years.
The court also imposed a fine amount of Rs Rs 6,000 on the convict Saroja Das and directed the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) to pay Rs 4 Lakh to the rape survivor as compensation.
The incident took place in 2019 when Das was the tuition teacher of the minor girl. One day, when the girl was alone, in the absence of her parents, Das raped her and fled.
A police complaint in this regard was lodged by the victim’s parents.
