Bhubaneswar: Two persons have been awarded 30-year RI each for raping a minor girl in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The judge of a special POCSO court in Berhampur also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the two convicts.
The convicts, aged 35 and 25 years, will undergo an additional six months in prison if they fail to pay the fine amount.
According to reports, the two convicts hailing from the same village as that of the survivor under Bhanjanagar police limits of Ganjam district, gang-raped a 15-year-old girl on January 19 last year when she was returning from a threshing yard. The convicts abducted the minor girl and took her to a nearby jungle.
Police had registered a case against the convicts under different sections of the IPC and POCSO Act on the following day at Bhanjanagar police station after the survivor lodged a complaint. The convicts were arrested on the same day and sent to judicial custody.
The POCSO court also recommended payment of Rs 12 lakh to compensate the survivor through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
