Balasore: In a gross incident, a man allegedly attempted to kill his infant daughter by injecting poison into the baby on Monday. The man allegedly responsible for this incident was suspicious of his wife having an affair with another person, and the baby was theirs, the police said.
During an examination of the detainee, the man confessed to having administered pesticide out of anger and suspicion. But later the couple rushed the 20-day-old child to hospital, the police said.
This was not a case of attempted female infanticide, but rather of an irate husband trying to kill his child suspecting that it was not his and that of another person with whom his wife had an affair, SP Sagarika Nath said.
The incident triggered anger among people in Singhiri village under Nilagiri police limits. Nilagiri police have registered a cognisable case in this connection and investigating further.
