Berhampur: Polasara police have arrested four persons including a 65-year-old woman for allegedly cheating Rs 56 lakh from two persons in two separate cases registered with it.
The accused have been identified as Sailabala Mishra (65) of Patrapada under Khandagiri police limits of Bhubaneswar; Jadumani Pradhan (38) and Narayan Pradhan (72) of Chirikipada Sasan, Jena Sahi, under Polasara police limits of Ganjam district; and Sibaram Gouda (56) of Bhanjanagar Tala Sahi under Bhanjanagar police limits of Ganjam district.
According to Polasara police, on May 8, it received a complaint from one Ranjan Kumar Sahu (47) of Chirikipada Sasan alleging that Sailabala Mishra had cheated Rs 51 lakh from him to facilitate in getting the tender for running the canteen of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
In 2021, Mishra allegedly identified herself to be one of the Members of High Level Committee of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. She utilized two persons namely Narayan Pradhan and his son Jadumani Pradhan of Chirikipada Sasan and one Sibaram Gouda, one of her workers to motivate complainant Ranjan Kumar Sahu.
On being allured with a long-duration business and profit, Sahu allegedly paid Rs 45 lakh in different phases to Mishra. Sahu allegedly paid Rs 1,85,000 in cash and transferred Rs 43,15,000 from the bank account.
Further, Sahu allegedly gave Rs 5 lakh to Mishra for supplying phenyl to the hospital and also gave Rs 6.50 lakh for providing jobs for his niece and some other local persons.
Later, accused Mishra avoided the complainant Sahu and after much persuasion, she refunded cash of Rs 5.50 lakh to the complainant. Subsequently, she gave six Bank cheques amounting to a total of Rs 51 lakhs in favour of complainant Sahu which got bounced due to insufficient balance in her bank account.
The accused persons have been arrested and forwarded to the court.
On May 8 Polasara police received another complaint from one Archana Kumari Sahu of Saranakula village of Nayagarh district that the accused persons Jadumani Pradhan, Narayan Pradhan, and Sibaram Gouda had assured her to provide a job at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar through Sailabala Mishra.
On being motivated Archana Kumari Sahu contacted Mishra and gave her Rs 6 lakh of which she transferred Rs 4 lakh from her bank account and Rs 2 lakh in cash.
As Mishra did not provide her with a job, Sahu frequently contacted Mishra to refund her money. But Mishra refunded only Rs 1 lakh to Sahu and did not refund the remaining Rs 5 lakh.
In this connection, a separate case was registered at the Polasara police station on May 8.
Police will be seeking remand of the accused persons who have been already arrested in the previous case.
