Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police has allotted time slots to Puja Committees here for immersion of Durga idols in 14 artificial ponds created for the purpose by the civic administration.

While Durga idols belonging to 26 community puja pandals are scheduled for immersion today, idols of all the remaining pandals will be immersed between 10 AM to 6 PM in four time slots as per Covid norms.

“Immersion process will continue from 10 AM till 6 PM. We have notified about who will conduct immersion where and when,” informed Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh here today.

Singh stated that Commissionerate Police has made detailed arrangements for immersion of idols.

“There will be ample deployment for police force at the designated immersion sites. In addition to that policemen from the local police station will escort the vehicle carrying the idol to the notified immersion site at the allotted time,” said Singh.

He informed that this year idols will be carried to the immersion site in vehicles instead of the earlier practice of those being carried on tractor chassis.

A maximum of seven persons will be allowed to accompany the idol to the immersion site, he added.
The DCP said that police will ensure smooth conduct of immersion of the idols keeping with Covid guidelines.
