Reamal (Deogarh): Police have arrested six persons in connection with a violent mob attack in Kendeijuri village under Reamal police station limits in Deogarh district, where one man was killed and another injured following allegations of cow slaughter.

The accused have been identified as Prabhat Kumar Sahu (36), Ghanashyam Pradhan (30), Gajanan Kalet (18), Kumarmani Karlo (60), Suresh Kisan (55) of Kendeijuri village, and Deepak Kumar Behera (37) of Bhandarimal in Mahendrapur village. They are scheduled to undergo health check-ups and COVID-19 antigen tests before being produced in court today.

According to reports, on Wednesday, Kishore Meher (35) of Terendakata village and his associate Gautam Naik of Kendeijuri were allegedly slaughtering a cow near a canal in the village.

Acting on a tip-off, a group of villagers raided the spot and reportedly recovered beef and a severed cow’s head. The discovery led to mob violence, with the villagers dragging the two men some distance and assaulting them. Kishore succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Gautam was left wounded.

Reamal police reached the spot around 6 PM, seized Kishore’s body, and registered a case based on a complaint filed by his wife. Officials said further investigation is underway, and security in the area has been stepped up to prevent flare-ups.
