Bhubaneswar: Airfield Police on Tuesday arrested a person on charges of raping a three-year-old girl in the state capital.
The accused has been identified as Santosh Khuntia. He works as a driver. The medical examination of the accused will be conducted at Capital Hospital and produced before the Court, police said.
It is alleged that the accused Santosh Khuntia raped the minor girl in an intoxicated condition.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the victim came to play at the accused Santosh’s house. As nobody was present at Santosh’s house, Santosh took advantage and raped the minor girl.
It is learnt from hospital staff that the victim had come to the hospital last night for a medical examination and ultrasound.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said, “The victim’s family made a frantic search for her after she did not return home. Later after rescuing the girl from the house of the accused, they filed a complaint with Airfield police. Based on the complaint, a special team was formed to nab the accused. By the time police raided his residence to nab him, the accused had moved to Pipili. The accused had managed to escape from the spot by the time police reached.”
He further said, “We launched a search operation subsequently and nabbed the accused within 24 hours. A forensic team has, meanwhile, seized all evidence in connection with the rape incident.”
