Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday caught an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police while taking bribe at Kotagarh town in Kandhamal district.
According to an official press release, Odisha Vigilance officials on Tuesday trapped Rajanikanta Das, ASI of Police in Kotagarh police station in Kandhamal district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs15,000 near the Kali temple of Kotagarh town from a person (Complainant) to help him and his friends in a case registered in Kotagarh police station of which ASI Das was the Investigating Officer (IO).
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Das and seized in presence of witnesses. Right hand wash as well as pant pocket wash of Das gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the release said.
The release further said that following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of ASI Das from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
In this connection a case has been registered against Das at Berhampur Vigilance police station under section 7 P C (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is in progress against accused Das, the release added.
