Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday apprehended Dharanidhar Nath Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police posted at Talcher police station in Angul district while he was demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from person (Complainant) to help him in a case, of which he was the Investigating Officer (IO).
According to an official press release, ASI Nath demanded immediate payment of bribe amounting to Rs 3,000 and threatened to arrest the complainant if the demand was not met.
Finding no other way, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities. Based on this, Vigilance Officers apprehended accused ASI Nath today while he was taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money of Rs 3,000 has been recovered and seized from the exclusive possession of ASI Nath.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of ASI Nath, from disproportionate assets (DA) angle, the release said.
In this connection, a case has been registered against Nath at Cuttack Vigilance police station under sections 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, while further investigation against accused ASI Nath is in progress, the release added.
