Jeypore: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jeypore in critical condition after allegedly cutting his own neck with a blade while in an inebriated state.
ASI Chamaar Nayak, who is attached to the Koraput Police Head Office, was deployed to attend a programme in Kotpad where two High Court judges were present as guests. After an argument at the event, which was later pacified, Nayak reportedly escaped and inflicted the injury on himself.
Police colleagues immediately rushed him to the Kotpad Hospital, where he received primary treatment before being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jeypore. His condition is currently reported to be serious.
The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. Upon receiving news of the incident, senior police officials, including Jeypore Sadar Police Station IIC Sachindra Pradhan and Town Police Station Officer Ullas Rout, visited the hospital to inquire about Nayak’s health condition.
