Baripada: Baripada Sadar police have stumbled on a fake currency racket while investigating a kidnapping case.
While police have arrested four persons including a woman in connection with the fake currency racket, police have arrested three persons in connection with the kidnapping case.
Police seized one motorcycle, two SUVs, 3 bundles of fake currency notes and 3 mobile phones from the accused persons.
Police have arrested four persons Gajendra Behera, Luta Behera, Sukra Singh of Jadunathpur village under Badasahi police limits and Ranjita Behera of Kuchei village under Kuliana police limits for their involvement with the fake currency racket.
On the other hand, police have arrested Mahadev Singh, Thakur Singh, and Baya Bindhani of Salboni village under Baripada Sadar police limits in connection with the kidnapping of Luta Behera’s son Gajendra Behera.
According to the police, Ranjita Behera had promised to pay Mahadev Singh Rs 3 lakh in exchange for Rs 1 lakh after seven days. But after the lapse of seven days, Ranjita asked Mahadev over the phone to pay another Rs 3 lakh and in exchange take Rs 10 lakh in one go.
On sensing that he has been duped, Mahadev told Ranjita to collect the Rs 3 lakh.
While Ranjita had sent Gajendra to deliver the fake currency notes, Mahadev with the help of other villagers detained Gajendra at the village clubhouse.
Gajendra’s father Luta Behera on Friday filed a complaint with Baripada Sadar police that his son has been kidnapped.
Police rescued Gajendra and arrested his kidnappers and during their interrogation were able to crack the fake currency racket.
