Police Busts Illegal Firearm Racket In Koraput, Arrests 3

Koraput: Jeypore Police have busted an illegal firearm racket with the arrest of three persons and seizure of three pistols and live ammunition from their possession.

The three accused have been identified as Sankar Pradhan (23) of Phampuni, Rakesh Kumar Sukri (27) of Damaput and Md Ansar Alli (52) of Jeypore Paikasahi.

Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhisekh Behera today informed that a case had been registered at Jeypore Sadar Police Station on Wednesday evening based on reliable information that Sankar is possessing a firearm and creating havoc near his village.

Based on the input, OIC A Mahakur and team proceeded to the spot and apprehended Sankar and seized one pistol with two live ammunition from his personal search. During interrogation, he disclosed that he had brought the pistol from Md Ansar through Rakesh.

Subsequently, a raid was conducted and the two other accused persons were apprehended. Two more pistols with four live ammunition were seized from them.

Reportedly, Sankar is a dreaded criminal who has been involved in a series of cases including the attempted murder of a journalist. Rakesh has also been involved in a case in which he physically assaulted an advocate.
