Kendrapara: A police constable of Pattamundai police station was suspended for allegedly collecting money from farmers in Kendrapara district.
The district SP initiated the action against constable Rajkishore Barik after a video purportedly showing him receiving money from farmers at Kanipal village went viral. Barik was seen asking for money while giving notice to some farmers.
According to reports, some farmers had participated in a rally outside Odisha Assembly in Bhubaneswar on September 22. The Commissionerate police had slapped section 107 against them. Later, warrants were issued against them in this connection.
The constable had visited the village to serve the summon.
He allegedly collected Rs 100 from each farmer while giving them notice. Irked, the farmers reportedly detained his bike and opposed him. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
