Bhadrak: In a strong crackdown on noise pollution caused by modified motorcycle silencers, Bhadrak police seized and destroyed over 250 illegal silencers, crushing them under a road roller in a public display aimed at deterring offenders.
The Bhadrak Town Police launched a month-long special drive targeting motorcycles—particularly Royal Enfield Bullets—fitted with modified silencers that emit loud, disruptive sounds. The campaign led to the confiscation of numerous such silencers and the imposition of ₹10,000 fines on violators.
As a symbolic and stern message to those flouting norms, the seized silencers were flattened using a road roller in full public view. The initiative was spearheaded by Bhadrak Town Police Station Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Prabhashu Mishra, who affirmed that similar action will soon be extended to shops selling illegal silencers.
“We are committed to ensuring peace and discipline in the city. Loud, modified silencers not only violate the law but also disturb the public, especially the elderly, children, and patients. We will continue this drive aggressively,” said Mishra.
The police have warned that upcoming enforcement rounds will also target retailers involved in the sale and installation of these banned components.
The operation has drawn praise from residents, many of whom had long complained about the growing menace of noise pollution from modified bikes in city streets.
